A Well-Thought-Out Note to Mayor Hubbard

[Ed note:  Everythig Richard does deserves careful attention.  Herein is the best-written, careful, response to a subtle problem of our society, wrapped in an email from Richard O. Schwab to Joseph Hubbard, Mayor of Glendale, responding to Joe's Quarterly Horatory list of physical accomplishments to the Village.  You should read the email and then Richard's own letter to the Tri-County Press, which covers the particular thing that Joe did -- take implicit credit for the good things done for Glendale by The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, without giving credit where credit was due, and, perhaps, putting down The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act at the same time.]

Dear Joe:

In the recent Fall edition of the Village of Glendale Newsletter, you write about the work on the Square and state that, when finished, "It will be something we can all be proud of."

You also write, "While all this was going on, Sharon Ave. from the railroad tracks to Morse Avenue was being repaved including new curbs on the south side. It looks great."

You make no reference to The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act which provided funding for these two successful projects other than to state, "By the way we are trying to get rid of the signs as quickly as we can."

Your presentation reinforced a point of view I expressed in a Guest Column "Irrational voters threaten to cloud election season" which appeared in the October 6 Tri County Press.

I have provided you with a link to the article.
