Insightful Comments and Pictures! Tuesday Night at the Cock and Bull Watch Party of GOFACT

From Richard Schwab:

As promised, here are the comments to post on the GOFACT blog. I will follow with 7 photos of our Watch Party to post as well. When posted, I will send an email to all inviting them to visit the GOFACT blog.

Participants at the GOFACT Cock & Bull 1/25/11 SOTU Viewing Party submitted the following comments:

"Good strategy - call out the Republicans on special interest tax loopholes. If the Republican Party really is in the pocket of corporate America, the battle ground will be bloody. It might be a way for the President to peal away The Tea Party from John Boehner. So far there are promising areas of political infighting in this speech. What we haven't seen so far is the President leading his party, his base, people like me who voted for him in an active struggle against the Fox network minions who currently have a majority in the House of Representatives. Delivery depends upon the skill with which the Administration defends its propositions. If the lame-duck session is any indication, there may be reason for hope." - David Edmundson

"One nation, one creed... Innovation drives our nation... The speech was brilliant in addressing the needs of the country, while subtly addressing the partisan, bitterness and meanness that also clouds our richness and beauty as a country." - Linda Johnson Towles

"It was wonderful to be with Democrats this wonderful evening. Thanks Richard. The President was terrific as usual. We are available to make phone calls." - Judie and Tom Doyle

"Spot on about technical change, automation and globalization. Spot on - college degree unemployment = 4.2%, high school = 14.8%... Research and Innovation - comparison with space race reinvented to meet challenges - Apollo projects of our time... Reward good and stop making excuses... Tuition tax credit... also critical if states raise tuition.

Rebuilding... Corporate taxes - lower rates, but no loopholes... Litmus test - don't add to the deficit.

Fair layout of health pros and cons... Fix and move forward... Confront the deficit... but how squarely... freeze spending - discretionary (annual domestic = 12%)... defense spending... not on backs of the most vulnerable.

Medicare -> malpractice... Social Security - bipartisan implies no restriction on benefits - can't be done. Some benefits have to gradually be reduced... Simplify tax code... Reorganization... Streamline... good.

Lobbyists... Congress - good.

Marker on table - Muslims are part of our family. Afghanistan commitment on troop withdrawal... Tunisia - many an Arab government is sweating.

Marker on DADT and tilt to ROTC - positive closure..." - Willie Owens

"Going forward:

(1) Follow legislation on Congressional Website http://thomas.loc.gov/

(2) Keep pressure on our GOP legislators via phone, email, etc. Let them know what we want.

(3) Fox News, the Tea Parties, Sarah Palin etc. will continue with distortions and misinformation - I see it in my email inbox and in The Enquirer letters - we need some better ways to counter this.

(4) I would like to see more social political information events."

- Maynard Johnson

"My daughter must have a job - jobs have to be more than construction, street cleaning, home health care and the like.

Do not forget Art and Music - or children will not be creative.

Let's rebuild the Cincinnati - Chicago rail line through Indiana so less rail traffic has to go through our neighborhoods.

Stop the war in Afghanistan now.

Get rid of those tax breaks for the very wealthy." - Carol Muntz

"We need to reform the tax code, if Republicans award free enterprise, let's get rid of subsidies to businesses (especially those who don't need it) and have them compete.

Let's review farm subsidies.

I really think that we need to eliminate subsidies to the oil industry.

I'm glad Barack Obama didn't back away from his priorities, those for the future of the country." - Mary Fran Piepmeier

"Technology

Clean Energy

Health Care fix

Education Reform

Organize our youth"

- Susan Upton Farley

"I pray we can work as one as we did in 2008; we must, because Barack Obama's ideas are working and will work after 2012. You have to spend money to make money everybody knows that!" - Laverne Griffith

"(1) The incessant clapping between sentences is childish and makes the whole thing sound like a game show, why can't this be stopped?

(2)Education: By eliminating online Colleges and Universities could this not create more jobs for employees at real Universities.

(3) Health Care: Stop Insurance Companies' exploitation of patients for their own profit.

(4) Spending Cuts: Why don't they cut the salaries of members of Congress and Government - $176,000 is too much . They have lost touch with reality at these pay rates.

(5) Stop the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. This is absurd. (These individuals have also lost touch with reality.)

(6) Government censorship of the media may have prevented such an events as the Arizona massacre. In today's society freedom of the press goes too far.

Statistics:

Recovery Act/ Jobs 26%

Health Care Reform 14%

Wall St./ Financial Reform 14%

Iraq/ Foreign Policy/ Terrorism 20% (why so much time to this?)

Education 12%

Gays in Military 1%"

-John, Elaine, & Chris McKiernan

"Rules have changed - competition in the new markets.

•Educate and Build - innovation - internet - economic revolution - innovation is how we make our living.

•Research - reinvent our energy policy - 1 million electric cars by 2015.

Instead of billions to oil companies, invest in green technology, clean energy sources. Invest in tomorrow. Increase expectations and performance to improve teacher quality - science, technology, engineering, and math."
